Activities

At Meetings:
  • There is the Treasurer's report on the financial status of the club. This is followed by the President's announcements about upcoming coin shows, special events the club may be having, or other topics that the club membership may need to make a decision about.
  • Coin Auction: Any member may offer up to five items to be auctioned to the members present. The items may be individual coins, proof sets, groups of coins, rolls of coins, coin folders, etc. The auction is usually the first order of business after the Treasurer and President's reports.
  • A Silent Coin Auction: This is in addition to the regular auction. Members display coins they want to sell and other members can submit written bids for these coins throughout the whole of the meeting.
  • Door Prize: One member's membership number is selected at random. If that person is present at the meeting, he or she wins the door prize, usually $25. If not, the money is rolled over and added too for the next meeting.
  • 50-50 Drawing: Those present at the meeting can buy chances for a 50-50 drawing before the meeting gets started. A drawing is made late in the meeting; half of the money goes to the person with the drawn ticket; the other half goes to the club.
  • Kid's Raffle: Any of the younger members who are present at the meeting are given a ticket for the Kid's Raffle. Later in the meeting, the drawing is made and each ticket holder is allowed to select one of the kid's prizes. Kids do not pay anything for the ticket. The drawing is used only to determine the order in which the kids select.
  • Normal Raffle: Those present at the meeting can buy tickets for the normal raffle before the meeting gets started and during pauses in the activities. Ten items collectively worth approximately $300 are raffled off late at each meeting. The holder of the first ticket drawn for the raffle may select from any of the ten items; the holder of the next ticket may select any of the remaining nine items; and so on.
  • Often a few members bring some of their coins to sell to other members. This is in addition to the auctioned coins mentioned above.
  • There are normally some refreshments available at the meeting.
  • For the Coin Show:
Members advertise the show, contract with the coin dealers, set up the show venue and at the show, give away door prizes and sell raffle tickets. They also draw the winners of the raffle at the end of the show.
